 Cactus Bud Rot

My cactus blooms with beautiful flowers every year. It is a large pot. The cactus is about 5ft high.
The buds this year(and also last year) are not opening ,they are turning black/brown and dying. Eventually the buds will turn black and the whole bud/stem will fall off. This cactus is well taken care of and always bloomed with beautiful flowers. What could be wrong?
