Etymology:  Astrophytum: From the Greek words astron, meaning a star and phyton, meaning a plant.
Echinocactus: From the Greek words echinos, meaning hedgehog and kaktos, meaning thistle.
Capricorne: From the Latin words capra, meaning billy goat and cornu, meaning horn or trumpet.
Origin:  Mexico
USA - Texas
Light:  Full sun.
Soil:  Typical mix: 1 part potting soil to 1 part coarse sand.
Water:  Typical: Drench soil and let dry from Spring through Fall. Water sparingly during Winter dormancy period.
Min Temperature:  45F.

Blooms:  Yellow w. Red Throat
Comments:  The Goat's Horn is named for the characteristic shape of its long, curled and flattened spines. The spines are very fragile, so, plant should be handled with care. The skin of this 8-ribbed cactus is covered with small white flecks: a characteristic of the genus. It will eventually produce a tapered column around 10 inches in height. Our plant was purchased in Tucson. RIP.
